RW Microsilica

The use of microsilica in concrete pours near coastal areas has gained significant attention among construction engineers. Due to its outstanding pozzolanic properties, the application of microsilica to enhance mechanical performance and improve concrete durability is increasingly common in advanced countries. Microsilica is a byproduct of electric arc furnaces during the production of ferrosilicon alloys. This material, containing over 90% silica in an amorphous (non-crystalline) form, consists of ultra-fine particles with an average diameter of 0.1 microns, making it highly pozzolanic and ideal for use as a cementitious material in concrete. When microsilica is added to a concrete mix, its reactive SiO₂ combines with the free calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂) in the capillary pores of the concrete, forming insoluble calcium silicate crystals. This process densifies the cement paste structure, reduces permeability, and increases concrete strength. Complies with ASTM C1240.

Dosage:
RW Microsilica can be added at 3–7% by weight of cement. (Since it improves concrete strength, it can replace an equivalent amount of cement.)

Important Note:
Microsilica reduces water content, so it must be used with a superplasticizer. Otherwise, it may cause cracking, reduced workability, and poor compaction.

Application Method:
Blend the required amount with dry mix components before adding water and superplasticizer.

Storage & Shelf Life:
